Conceptual nominee

In the modern connected world, people are coming together from all walks of life to find
unity in the way they feel emotionally and physically. The state of being male or female is
much more than the traditional outlook, and we are now in an age that is allowing
individuals to express their true identity and beliefs.

‘FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION’ deconstructs this standard perspective of the human form
and reconstructs body shape / posture into ambiguous sculptural form. A person's sexual
orientation or preference is not defined by their body alone and taking the enduring theme
of the female figure within the arts we are reinterpreting the traditional to reflect the
modern shift in identity and sexual orientation.

BASTARD TURPIN is a image making partnership of Kai Bastard and Bill Turpin. Their projects exemplify an image’s ability to not only draw an audience’s attention, but tell a story, coax self-reflection, and inspire critical thinking.

They focus on creating controversial social messaging embodying a cross section of human observations surrounding sexual, political and emotional issues.These surreal, at times illusory images both shock and amuse, breaking through the everyday noise promoting discussion and encourage debate.
