Subject: Climate change, eco art, environmental art.
My work is a visual research into the balance and imbalance between man and his environment. In my search I focus on moments of collision and friction, but also on moments of harmony and unity. Recurring themes are territoriality and demarcation, manipulation and the urge to cultivate and form nature.
This specific photo I made during a stay in Inari, Finnish Lapland. The abstract dark form in the snow consists of black desert sand. The addition of the desert sand not only creates a contrast in material, colour and light intensity, but also emphasizes the contrast between hot and cold places on earth. At the same time it brings these places closer together. The square of snow that appears in the middle becomes a framed piece of nature, a metaphor for by man shaped nature.
My work often comes from idealism. I see it as a gentle way to question worldly issues, as a kind of Slow Art.
