“Medusa: The heroic transcendence of suffering. A journey to freedom” is a project about overcoming trauma. With Campbell’s book in mind, the myth is re-created.
In this project, different women will represent the different selves that cohabit in a person in the traumatic process, and the diverse nuances in the experiences of the traumatic experience and recovery presented as a heroic path of transformation.
Medusa evolves from the terror of her vivid past experiences until her “enlightenment” in a new state of consciousness.
The backgrounds are classical paintings of the Medusa’s murder, her dead head, or the use of her head against Perseus’ enemies. She is overcoming flashbacks and painful memories of the past.
Medusa has become through “enlightenment” in “Libertas” the goddess of freedom.
Liberty standing with her old “head” it’s an evocation of the famous image of “Perseus with the head of Medusa“
Medusa stands triumphant with her old “head” which was the trauma. She is free and she realises the inner freedom that she has now, as long as she keeps that mind-state.
This project is especially dedicated to all those heroes and heroines who, after trauma, decide each day; to live instead of dying.
