This portrait is part of my series Modern Times.
For this series I created interpretations of famous or relatively famous historical paintings. The clothes are designed by internationally celebrated contemporary Dutch Fashion designers who each also take daily inspiration from the masters. I street casted all my models myself and did my own retouching to keep control over the results from the sketch to the endresults.
Even though a sense of nostalgia speaks through my art, the aim is to always
remain in line with the contemporary zeitgeist.
This work is inspired on the painting The Sisters by Abbott Handerson Thayer (1884) starring the amazing twins Sterre & Meerle who in a way suggest an unrealistic mirror image. A symbolic way to emphasize that they are actually two very different personalities, but often viewed as the same by the outside world.
