« Naked Glaciers » PHOTO/VIDEO Expedition - by Ania Freindorf
Today, due to climate change glaciers worldwide are melting at an impressive speed. The main goal of my expedition is to witness and create strong visual documentation, both in photographs and video, of glaciers on all seven continents. Inspirational storytelling will result in a strong photo feature, photo exhibition, photo book, and a documentary film.
The idea of my project was born when a long hike in the French Alps ended with a disappointment. I realized that the glacier melted last year and exists no more. This helped me understand the urgent need for visual archives, both in photography and film.
The attached Photography Portfolio is a result of my work in France and Switzerland, and the beginning of the Expedition “Naked Glaciers”. They strongly express the style and atmosphere I will keep working on in other continents. What is essential for me is to convey their power and recent weakness, traveling through the
labyrinth of the ice from all possible angles and perspectives, maintaining at the same time the
harmony and the color which since some time now (due to human influence) became black and white.
