In Autumn 2014 I made a day trip to McLean Falls with a close friend from Queenstown. It was a solid 7.5 hour return drive followed by a short 20 minute hike into the base of the falls. I spent a good few hours experimenting with different compositions and shutter speeds before finally leaving, confident that I had nailed the shot I was after.
Later that night, while reviewing my shots back in Queenstown I became increasingly disappointed. I realised that my camera should have been half a foot to the left for the perfect composition I was after. I asked my friend if he would mind doing the 7.5 hour return drive with me again the next day. He was astonished at my request but surprisingly agreed. The next day we returned and I setup my camera in the perfect position. I then experimented again with different shutter speeds taking a series of similar photos with slightly different patterns/streaks in the water until I nailed the shot I was after.
