It was -7 degrees when the alarm went off at 3am and I had come down with a cold overnight but I know there are no prizes for laziness.
I had been working on this shot for over a year and had been watching the conditions at Cradle Mountain carefully for the past 2 months, clearing my schedule and booking a last minute flight when the forecasted conditions had presented themselves.
I jumped out of bed, put on my thermals, outer layers, gloves and neoprene waders then scraped the ice off the windscreen, climbed into the 4wd and headed up the slippery, icy road to Dove Lake.
Thankfully, as predicted the conditions were perfect when I arrived, clear skies, no moon and reflections on the lake. Other than the wombats, wallabies and potoroos, I had the entire place to myself.
The moon was set to rise at 5am so by the time I had waded into the lake and setup I only had an hour to capture the image.
The scene before me was amazing, the stars reflected beautifully on the calm waters of Dove Lake.
I setup my gear and captured one of my personal favourite shots to date.
