The title of the series “Pictures of Her” may be puzzling: who is she? When looking at the images you can deduce it’s a child, always the same one, striking poses that could be a game, or not. Is the child playing hide-and-seek, or is she trying to escape by jumping through the window, or by blending into the background to the point of becoming a curtain, a lamp, or a piece of furniture, that one sets down here or there? We are plunged into a universe where dreams and strangeness go hand in hand.
This is a collaborative œuvre between a mother and her daughter, as well as a performance for the child.
I start the process; my daughter interprets it and adds her personal touch. It’s a conversation: what I would like to see, what she is willing to share from her imaginary universe. Together we create intimate moments that only we can really fully understand. It’s a bridge between two worlds, letting the viewer enter into our world, the world I have created, but that my daughter has then interpreted in her own way.
And if this was just a dream?
