When I awoke at 5am it was raining steadily so I was tempted to have a sleep in. This was our only night at Cape Tribulation so I pulled myself together and jumped out of bed. We hit the Bloomfield Track well equipped with our Toyota Prado and drove through a number of Daintree river crossings in the dark hoping that the water levels hadn't risen with all the rain overnight.
We eventually arrived at the beach we had discovered the night before but the sky was clouded in and the rain just wouldn't give up. Despite the challenging conditions we did a quick check along the beach for crocodiles and then setup our gear and sat under a tree waiting patiently.
Just as sunrise rolled around, against all odds the horizon started to clear in patches and beautiful light shone through. I raced to my composition and waited in anticipation. Despite the clearing on the horizon the rain continued and I became increasingly frustrated - there was beautiful light in front of me but I couldn't keep my lens dry!
Patience was all that was required and eventually the rain stopped and allowed me to capture this unique photo.
