The second morning of our Brisbane trip, after another sleepless night I rose from bed at 4am to check the wind and cloud cover then decided to head down to the South Bank precinct, anticipating some fairly calm conditions that might offer some interesting reflections.
When I arrived I scouted along the edge of the Brisbane River until I settled on this composition and setup my gear to wait for the peak of the sunrise.
I normally use a graduated ND filter in a situation like this to balance the light between the sky and the water however when unpacking my bag I realised that I had left my graduated filters back at home in Victoria!
Thankfully the calm conditions kept the light variation within the camera’s capable range allowing me to capture this shot in one frame, with no filters or exposure blending required!
