Scotland and the Environment is a conceptual series of images touching on a variety of contemporary environmental issues such as plastic pollution, marine conservation, intensive agriculture and woodland protection. Whilst we frequently see images of starving polar bears and melting ice caps in global publications such as National Geographic, it is easy to forget that there are serious issues much closer to home.
Using composite techniques inspired by surrealist art, the project takes everyday images of urban and rural Scotland, and presents them in a fresh and engaging way. Moving beyond the documentary aesthetic of merely recording the scene in front of us, the project hopes to show the impact that these issues will have for the future, and in turn raise questions of our own individual responsibility to protect the world around us.
