My work goes about the exploration of boundaries: between light and darkness, abstraction and reality, order and chaos, between finding and losing, between impressionism and expressionism, between figurative and abstraction, ...
My pictorial universe lies somewhere between impressionism and abstract expressionism, where feelings and sensations matter. I like developing long series of pictures, taking months to explore a topic, a feeling, ...
The pictures presented here are taken from my new series "Seeking for Pollock": On the border between unconsciousness and awareness.
Using shots like the palette of a painter, I deconstruct forms and objects, express colorful illusions, sensations and feelings. I enjoy the excitement of in-camera multiple exposures, without being always fully aware of what I'm doing, a kind of guided unconsciousness, awareness coming later.
The creation process takes place “in the field”, when making the picture, in an iterative process, instead of during the post processing phase. I purposely chose not to have complete control over the creation process, but instead to focus on spontaneity. This provides me with more creative power, it allows me to work in a kind of guided trial and error mode until I get the desired effect.
