The New Night (Series)
DESCRIPTION
Light’s stimulation affects us humans just as it affects any organism with photon sensitive cells or organelles. This series explores our use of artificial lights through a tour of themed images. Layered with light sources, suggesting overabundance, and covering photographs of the night sky to visualize lowered star visibility, these images show some of our current uses of artificial light. By placing photos of artificial light over exposures of the night sky I wanted to push viewers to wonder why we as a species are so attracted to light, to question how our human biology influences our culture, and to show the variety of ways we use and abuse light today.
