Light beyond Liminal Space (Series)
DESCRIPTION
My photography is currently exploring forms and surfaces defining a liminal space for the eye to navigate. Liminal space is the gap we occupy between not knowing and the 'Ah-ha' moment of insight. The work relies on the common association of light with understanding, enlightenment or insight. The tonality of the images describe opaque, reflective and translucent surfaces to activate the imagination.
AUTHOR
Having worked with stained glass where the major visual impact comes from the interaction of light through glass, I am fascinated with how light behaves as it is reflected, blocked and transmitted through transluscent materials. I began to explore space, light, shadow, reflections, transluscence and luminosity with close up photography. My current series uses folded surfaces and backlighting to achieve luminous, abstract compostitions.
