Conceptual nominee

Beatriz is my 89-year-old grandmother who is one of the most energetic and full of life people I have ever known in my lifetime. Unfortunately, after her spouse of 50 years passed away I found her often to be depressed. Her eyesight has been deteriorating making her unable to read books or magazines anymore. She ends up spending most of her days watching television by herself in her room. This is where I came up with the idea to give her a photo shoot, something to change her daily routine and bring joy and randomness back into her life. And hopefully, I could create some fun new memories with her that were also documented. These photographs represent that youthful spirit she has always had.

Mauricio Murillo who also goes by the artist name Crummy Gummy is a contemporary photographer based out of Orlando, FL. His obsession with vibrant colors often compliments the people he photographs. The challenge of capturing someones uniqueness is one of the things he enjoys most about the medium. His work often focuses on Florida and the people that reside there. By showcasing it's people his goal is to show a glimpse of the creative individuals found in cities that might get overlooked, especially in his hometown.
