This is a series exploring the paradox between love and control in close relationships, such as siblings and family. The settings were all inspired by famous classical paintings (Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Juan Sanchez Cotan). The aim of the series is to inject completely new narratives into familiar settings, making it universal for viewers nowadays to project their own personal stories.
All the images in this series are composites made by my own self-portraits.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
Kayee makes use of techniques of self-portrait and composite photography to explore the dynamics of human relationships on different levels. Subjects in her portraits range from complete strangers to family members, staged in familiar settings from famous paintings, mysterious surroundings or entirely surreal dimensions.
She takes a humorous approach to reflect on the paradox between social disconnect and our desire to belong.
Kayee practiced different art forms including music, theatre, writing and video making before focusing on portrait photography in 2015. She is now specialised in fine art composite photography. She uses visual storytelling to depict her daily observations of human interactions and psychology.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, she currently resides in Paris and constantly navigates between different cultures and languages.
Education: Bachelor of Arts - The University of Hong Kong (French language and comparative literature, 2005)
Exhibition:
6-16 March 2020 - "Isolation - Living Yourself" international group exhibition by Loosen Art, Millepiani, Rome
