While “black blocs”, faces hidden behind masks, break bank windows and throw rocks at the police during demonstrations, street medics provide medical care to demonstrators.
Who are they? What are their motivations? I met some of them and asked.
In France, with the yellow vests protests, police violence increased tremendously. In reaction, many people joined black blocs or medic teams.
Their will to directly confront the system’s violence seems almost sacrificial. Looking at their bodies in action, I see painting infused with Judeo-Christian culture.
