This series of photos were taken in the Rain Room, an interactive art installation by Random International, a multimedia artist group, at their exhibition in Busan, Korea in December 2019. It was an extraordinary experience being in the room where it was pouring rain everywhere except where you are standing. You remain dry while you slowly walk around the room, with the room's sensors tracking your move and creating a dry circle overhead.
I tried to capture the sense of amazement and wonder as you first walk in, a bit cautiously, realizing this magical phenomenon in the room, and finally becoming more confident that you won't get drenched.
I took a series of photos in the room of my brother against the only source of light in the installation, and a self-portrait. 'Portrait - A youth in darkness' was taken while my brother was looking at his phone in the Rain Room, as the phone's screen was providing lighting for his face against the backlit spot light.
