DESCRIPTION
A young Ukuku boy dressed for the Qhapaq Qulla dance ritual in the Andean Highlands. He watches as his elders dance the Yawar Mayu (River of Blood). "They pair off with Ukukus from nearby villages, dancing together for a moment, then, hands joined, begin whipping each other in the calves to the point of drawing blood."
