The frogs of the genus Pelophylax are quite hard to indentify in middle Europe, as the two species Pelophylax ridibundus and Pelophylax lessonae can hybridize resulting in Pelophylax kl. esculentus. Luckily this individual was photographed in Croatia where just Pelophylax ridibundus and P. lessonae occurs, as this frog was a massiv individual with over 12cm in lenght it was for sure P. ridibundus. I photographed this individual while I was standing in a pond in the direction of the down going sun.
