A large part of the original forests has been destroyed in order to carry out huge palm plantations from which the famous oil is obtained. The palm oil is used in many industries, which are being increasingly persecuted and criticized for the negative effects of this product, both for the environment and our health. Countless animal species have seen their home disappear and the creation of protected areas, sanctuaries and recovery centers for wild animals has been necessary. Among these species, the orangutan ("orang-utan", literally the "man of the jungle" in Malaysian) has been especially affected. Although it is still possible to see orangutans in nature, far from the zoos, orangutans can also live and move at ease in protected areas where the only boundaries are set by the hectares of their forests.
