This project is meant to be an invitation to the spectator to take a journey inwards, into their own imagination, as an escapist endeavour or an immersive experience.
Christmas 2019, my studio in London: I have positioned my Mamiya RZ67 on my Cambo stand. My light need to be very close to my subject and set to full power to get the fastest flash duration. ( only with Elinchrom light!). So I had too much light and ended up using a few ND filter sheets and knock a good 2 stops out. For the next 24 hours the camera, the focal length, the light, the tank, will not move. Using the petri-dish I set up, I go on experimenting with the art of random-mixing any sort of liquid; oil, vinegar or pigment among others, get shaped into an array of New Worlds. transforming everyday household liquids into abstract alien worlds of colours through single or multiple exposures.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
Benoit’s work as a still life photographer contrasts with a youth spent playing rugby in Biarritz, France. From a contact sport of bursting action and movement, to the patience and calm that are part of the DNA of his medium of choice, he still goes to extremes today in his choice of subject matter. The highly stylised work he does in Beauty, where bending the rules of physics is a must, to creating abstractions of liquids that won’t hold shape. Benoit finds grandeur in the most minute detail, amusement in lighting, and hunger in shaping new creation.
