Badwater (Series)
DESCRIPTION
These photographs depict the existential markings left on Earth's surface by natural cycles of Endorheic ecosystems in California. Found at elevations up to 282ft. below sea level, garbens like Badwater Basin illustrate how salt looks when it’s absorbed and redeposited constantly through torrential rainfall, evaporation, and seepage. In an effort to photograph this process from the air, I teamed up with childhood friend and pilot, Marc Hermann. Using a fixed-wing aircraft, we fly in a descending spiral. A 30 degree bank is necessary to clear the wing from the shot; although I can feel this in my stomach, it is my favorite way to compose aerial photographs.
