LIBIDO CUNCTOS ETIAM SUB VULTU DOMAT (Series)
DESCRIPTION
LIBIDO CUNCTOS ETIAM SUB VULTU DOMAT is a Latin verse coined by the famous Roman playwright Publilio Siro, born in the first century BC. and means:
"Passion dominates everyone even if you don't always show it."
This project shows the female orgasm in the hidden and intimate character of the male gaze. The character underneath the veil is given space to be themselves without feeling the stigma or shame for confronting their passion. In many of my works the use of a veil acts as a filter between the subject and reality. These characters (in the form of busts) foreshadow the cloth, drapery and composure most often found in Ancient Greek / Roman art. Strong and contrasting light reimagines the exposure of sexual desire and passion, anchoring the overwhelming or taboo ideologies of sex from the pious notions of female virtue. The bold and colourful textures (added in post-production) reconsider the veil as a barricade and control to something yet truly uncontrollable.

Bio
Born in Florence in 1992, I have always had a passion for art and beauty. After graduating art school I moved to London to further improve my experience in the artistic field. One year in London, surrounded by so many different people and cultures, made me realise what I really wanted from my life and from my art. After the London experience I moved back to Italy, in Milan, where I studied photography at IED while further developing my artistic view and concept. I moved to Amsterdam four years ago, looking for a place where I can grow as an artist and as a human being.
About my work
My work aims to blend art and photography to represent stories at the border of reality. My style of photography is typically based on set composition, staged photography, still life and portraits. In my artistic work there are subtle references to the great artists of the past regarding composition and light. A feeling of darkness envelops throughout almost all of my works. For me, beauty is perceived in the imperfection of nature.
