Masks (Series)
DESCRIPTION
The main concept of this series of photographs is the face of the human being. The face becomes a mask that covers other masks or even nothing. Once this mask is removed, one is faceless, like a wooden mannequin without identity and personality. It was precisely the reflection on the Latin concept of "persōna", or masked character, that reminded me that we are all actors on the stage of life, and we are forced to wear different masks every day depending on who we are facing. Inspired by De Chirico I portrayed a planed, almost woody face under these masks to show the mannequin, the automaton, which is under our apparent personality. The longer we wear the mask, the more difficult it becomes to remove it.
