Open Theme nominee

This is a surreal collage series which draws meaning from our associations and relationship to natural light sources and their ability to create tone and mood. Paired down to a minimalist set of stylized elements each photo conveys meaning through a metaphor of light: a bright moon indicates hope, a silver moon sets a tone of longing or romance, a high sun gives rise to nostalgia with long summer shadows, a sunset conveys a sense of wistful sadness. All photos in this series are portraits which have been superimposed into a stylized world created with textures and layers of colour.

Patty Maher was born in Toronto and completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in English Literature at the University of Guelph. Her work as a fine art photographer began in 2010 and since then has been featured and recognized in numerous online and print publications around the world including a video interview with Yahoo Productions created for the series "The Weekly Flickr". Patty has also received recognition in a number of prestigious photography contests including the PX3 Prie de la Photography Paris, Moscow International Foto Awards, and the International Photography Awards.
