Cabernet Convergence (Single)
DESCRIPTION
In early July, a few months before harvest, I took this vineyard shot in Napa Valley, California. This section of the vineyard stuck out to me because it demonstrates the science behind wine production. Viticulturists, experts who grow grapes for wine, work very closely with winemakers. They are responsible for the process of cultivating and harvesting the grapes, which includes monitoring and controlling pests and diseases, fertilizing, and irrigating, as well as ensuring desired grape characteristics. They’re very particular about the orientation of the rows of grapes with respect to both the shape of the landscape and the angles at which the sun shines on the vineyard, as well as where any nearby hills might shadow it. From this aerial view, you can see where the direction of the rows change, flipping from one angle to another.
