DESCRIPTION
This sunrise over a field of chickpeas was taken in the Palouse region of Washington. Chickpeas, also called garbanzo beans, are legumes. Legumes are often used in a crop rotation with wheat because legumes are able to take nitrogen from the air and put it into the soil, leaving the soil in a better state than it previously was. Much of the Palouse region is farmed alternately in either wheat or a legume, such as chickpeas or lentils.
