Easter celebrations in Antigua Guatemala are really unique. Antigua is a beautiful old Spanish colonial town surrounded by 3 majestic volcanos. For one week each year the streets are filled with catholic devotees carrying a representation of Jesus through the streets of the small town. They burn incense (copal) to purify the streets before the procession passes adding even more mystery and spirituality to an already extremely intense atmosphere.
