Abstract nominee

"Britons watched TV for 40% of waking hours during Covid lockdown". Television connected us more than ever throughout the lockdown period. I have chosen to represent this through photographing the glow of a TV set from some of the most watched TV events in the UK over this time on the ceiling , creating a set of images that we all recognise. The images are long exposures to capture the overriding feeling of the content. Events in this set include Boris Johnson's Lockdown speech, Queen Elizabeth II's address to the nation, Joe Wicks' first PE lesson, the mobile phone footage showing the death of George Floyd and the FA Cup Final. Events that millions of Britons and people from around the world watched, as important updates about the situation that we found ourselves in, as well as to mentally escape from it, proving the TV as a vital and diverse tool. Together, we connected through what we saw on TV.
