Referred to by the locals as 'The Durian' after the local fruit, which, according to them has the taste of heaven and smell of Hell, this building is officially termed as 'The Esplanade and Theatres on the Bay'.
Built at a cost of over 1.3 billion Singapore dollars, the Esplanade is visible from many sections of the city. Its main feature is a roof consisting of two huge domed Mero latticed supporting structures, which glitter and create various graphic patterns depending on how the light falls.
This is an expanded view of the building.
