Captivating (Series)
DESCRIPTION
This image is part of the series "Captivating", single frame narratives which places the viewer in the position of a voyeur. He/she is witness to a strange situation that was likely not meant to become public; in this series typically persons in an uncomfortable situation. These persons seem to accept their position without a fight; why? Typically the images show only part of the story, as there are often references to persons or items outside of the frame and/or unexpected elements that trigger questions. The viewer is invited to think and wonder about what one is actually seeing, what it means and in the end complete the story with one's own thoughts.
AUTHOR
In 2012, after working 21 years in industry, I quit to focus on my passion: photography.
I realised that although I photograhed since my early youth I lacked some of the skills required to create the fine-art images I envisioned. So I went ‘back to school’ and graduated top of my class from the Fotovakschool, Rotterdam in 2015.
I try to create tantalising images that capture the viewer’s attention for more than a quick glance. My images mostly show an incomplete story or an unexpected twist that invites the viewer to think and wonder about what she/he is actually seeing and what it means.
So I received 56 awards for 36 different images. The most important are:
2016 Zilver medaille Prix de la Photography Paris (PX3)
2016 Bronz medaille Moscow International Foto Awards
2016 Finalist London International Creativity Contest.
2017 2e place categorie Silhouet 10th International color awards (USA)
2017 8e place Fotowedstrijd.EU
2017 Finalist Sienna International Photo Awards
In addition: nominaties and honourable mentions were received from:
International-Photography-Awards (USA); International-color-awards (USA); Moscow-International-Foto-Awards; Photographers-Forum (USA); ND-awards (UK); Tokyo-International-Foto-Awards; London-International-Creativity-Contest; Prix-de-la-Photography-paris; Fine-Art-Photography-Awards (UK)
