As a photographer and artist I have a penchant for kitsch. In my series "Notes on Kitsch" I investigate what lies behind this world of glamor and glitter.
Humor is an important part of my photography. In this way I encourage the viewer to take a critical look without being taught.
The emphasis here is on the degenerated banality of food in the western world. Where it is a necessity for others, the food is shown here as if it were toys by means of unrealistic design and colors.
Food is a necessity to many, but a decadent evidence to others. Captured here are toys designed to resemble food: realistic in form and color but not edible. The images also question plastic consumption and the mountain of waste worldwide. This beautifully presented as everything is neatly presented to us in the western world.
The images are 60x90 cm, the size of the images and enlarging the subject enhance its banality.
