Birdelaire (Series)
DESCRIPTION
These images are from a series called Birdelaire. In the series I create highly staged biomorphic 'portraits' that use wings, feathers and other found objects that are then combined and photographed in a pared back way that suggests these creatures might not be fabrications, since they are both realistic and strange at the same time.
Living in Australia it's hard not to notice how the harsh environment has motivated some bizarre physical adaptations in its wildlife; my images work as a fantastical part of this process.
AUTHOR
Eden has been creating his distinctive brand of still life photography for over a decade after a successful career as a film director.
His aim has been to challenge the perception of still life photography whilst making images that have a striking solitary power.
Eden creates strange transformed objects that he shoots simply in low-key light as if they are dignified subjects of a portrait painter. His work has a heavy dose of surrealism and a wonder for the natural environment.
