Once in sight of the headlights the hare keeps running, tries to equal the speed of the car; but runs towards its own death.
Project "Haast" is about the haste what can be experienced as pain. The idea started from the wonder and disgust at how many dead hares lay by the side of the road. Eva went to photograph them. How strange; we enter their habitat with our cars and our haste. The hare does not recognize a car as a natural danger, is blinded by the light and therefore no longer sees what is in the darkness: pasture, nature, life.
We humans too are sometimes blinded and keep on running. We trot with a tunnel vision in depressing or even frightening patterns.
Eva's projects are closely related to her own life questions. As in "Haast" Eva is her own medium; the project evolves as it develops. Consciously dwelling on the pain helped.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
Eva van der Ploeg, born and raised in Friesland. “Life is the art of surrender” was what my mother wrote on my birth announcement card. I am always looking for that moment of surrender. Confronting, but in all sincerity I keep questioning the world around me: the space I have and the tangibility of life itself.
With my project “Haast” I focus on the haste that can be experienced as pain, for that the hare is my totem animal. In Dutch an hare is an haas and haste is called haast.
