"On Route". (Series)
DESCRIPTION
My series “On Route” challenges our observations of the urban landscape by capturing dramatic elements and symbols of easily recognised suburban objects re-arranged within an ambiguous yet familiar environment.
Through my lens I have photographed, then reconstructed everyday components from our urban world to create graphic, somewhat mysterious compositions that allow room for individual interpretation of an easily recognisable backdrop.
Signs and symbols play an important role in my pictures and are seen in a place void of noise and clutter, a place where time has slowed. The graphic nature of the symbols stand alone and represent an unexpected beauty and harmony in defiance of their intended real life usage. Balance, composition and stillness are integral components of these pictures and combined with a reduced colour palette and dynamic lighting they create a mood and tone that juxtaposes the imagery with the noise, confusion and busy hustle of our everyday world.
