Every year, the 11th of November, polish people celebrate their Independence Day.
During the last few years, Europe was swept by a wave of right-wing populism.
As a result, the Independence March was hijacked by members of far right and racist organizations, such as the National Radical Camp. It has become a celebration of hate and toxic nationalism.
Every year the nation holds its breath, to see what will happen in the capital. The 2020 Independence Day was especially violent and hateful, not only towards minorities and random citizens, but also members of the press, who were harassed and wounded.
Last year has seen the re-election of the "Prawo i Sprawiedliwość" party, for its second consecutive term. It shows that, to this day, Poland struggles to manage its problems with hate and prejudice.
As many people are starting to loudly speak against the abusive government and the discrimination of minorities, a new and insecure time is starting in the country, where the boundaries of democracy are being stretched to the limit and the coronavirus epidemic still rages on.
