To address the pandemic of needless violence in our world, Thomas uses his esthetic photographic manipulations to counter brutality. These images are his response, an antidote, to the madness and chaos in our world. As well, they pay tribute to the victims of senseless hate and violence.
Based on Thomas’s seminal style of digital manipulation of lens-based photographs, this series consists of luminous and iridescent commemorative kaleidoscopic orbs whose goal is to restore light by giving the survivors a voice. Furthermore, each piece is a memorial to the lives taken.
The city, location and date of the event give titles to the individual images. It is up to the viewer to discover the connections.
The manipulation of a select lens-based source image leads to the multi-layered and sophisticated abstraction, reminiscent of Alvin Langdon Coburn’s Vortographs. Viewers have also compared these kaleidoscopic images to the teaching and healing mandalas found in Tibetan Buddhism, which invoke meditation and restoration. The artist satisfies two goals. He seeks self-rejuvenation in the creative process and conveys a message of optimism to the viewer during his exhibition.

AUTHOR
Thomas Brasch (B.A., B.Ed., MBA) has devoted twenty-five years to education. Completely self-taught in photography, he is able to showcase his perceptions of beauty, turning the real into surreal. He has had several solo shows in Toronto and has been in several group shows in North America. With a background in sciences, languages, education, and business, he is able to blend the skills he has learned and apply them to his second career as an art photographer.
