Snow has become a rare thing in the city of Basel in the last decades. But in January 2021 we had heavy snowfall over our small but historic city. The otherwise noisy, hectic city with its billboards and construction sites, became quiet and slow. As if time slowed down, the city felt as if we had traveled back in time to a bygone era.
Totally hypnotized and as if in a trance, the city was spiked with quiet, almost frozen scenes. A shopkeeper on a cigarette break, several people deciding whether to really venture out into the snow, lonely people on the palatinate overlooking the Rhine and the city or simply citizens trying to get from one place to another. Everyday life in which the city itself is as much an actor as the people in it.
