Street Photography 2nd place winner

'Geometric Hong Kong' is a photo series consists of black and white street images with fine art quality, which depicts my personal view of my hometown – Hong Kong. It comes with the general aesthetic of isolating geometrical elements and forms inside the chaotic urban environment of Hong Kong.

The series presents the outlook of the 'Concrete Jungle', while showing the way of life of little urban characters, or some could be simply as minimalistic geometrical abstractions culled from mundane everyday scenes – which all work to come in contrast with the congested cityscape of Hong Kong. Nevertheless, those urban subjects look trapped and lost inside a geometrical artificial labyrinth without realising it - perhaps this is a metaphorical representation of the busy contemporary life people are having within big cities like Hong Kong.

Jason Au is an award-winning photographer based in Hong Kong. He specializes in black and white photography and is interested in street and fine art photography. His high-aesthetic works often incorporate creative, geometric and balanced compositions, with prominent use of contrasting light and shadows and dynamic interplay between texture and forms.
