The photos are real pictures and correspond to the shooting situation. Apart from the usual adjustments of brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc., no interventions were made in the digital image. The pictures were taken on a beach on the island of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean. The last floods washed the beach goods lying around, covered them with sand again, maybe rearranged them a bit and washed them free again. The white, small-grain sand embeds the objects almost flat. In addition, there is the steeply standing sun near the equator, which casts hardly any shade for a large part of the day.
At first glance, the images appear as abstract graphics. It is only when you take a closer look that you discover that it is mostly textiles, plastic, leather, but also vegetable elements. And so they begin to tell a story: where do these remnants of clothing, laundry and packaging come from. How did they get into the sea? Why were they washed up right here?
