Eventide (Series)
DESCRIPTION
The aim of my project is giving my own interpretation of myths and legends linked to my motherland and, at the same time, seeking the inner fears of human beings. Folk tales, they live in our everyday life, through our gestures and habits: It is possible to find them in a CRACK from the ceiling, in a scream breaking the Silence of the woods, in my cat’s eyes staring at me at night. According to folk tales from Lucca, when you are not able to find your key or something disappears inexplicably in your house, it is Linchetto’s fault. It is believed that Linchetto is a naughty spirit that tricks people in their own house, he can cause knots in your hair so you will be forced to cut it or he can steal something so you cannot find it. He loves neatness and He cannot bear disorder. If you want to get rid of Linchetto you can leave a bowl of berries or rice. He is not able to count. If he knocks over a bowl of berries in the dark, he instinctively will want to count. Alternatively, he will be disgusted if you eat polenta and cheese.
AUTHOR
Nicoletta Cerasomma is a photographer and surrealist pop artist with a clear, graphic and strong language. Her studies in fashion photography and her experience in staged photography inspired her meticulous aesthetic.
Her work is highly conceptual and complex: as surrealist artist, she incorporates archetypes and cultural iconography with satirical narratives inspired by the collective unconsciousness. Her images come from a personal place of exploration where she dreams about living a thousand lives in one.
With language typical of pop surrealism and a predilection for abstract composition, her photography has become a narrative medium with a unique and recognisable visual code. She works with light, shadow and colour to create images that evoke stories and provoke fantasies.
Nicoletta is inspired by the dichotomy between the themes of Beauty and Decay, which she loves to incorporate into her work in order to evoke contemplation and debate on the human condition, using a vivid and provocative still imagery and a cinematic technique.
Since 2020, her work, which depicts women placed in evocative scenarios, has won many nominations and awards. Presented for the first time in the Sony World Photography Award competition, her work was selected as a winner finalist in the creative category.
