This image shows the Orion constellation above the waterfall in Austrian Alps from a small ice cave. Spend a night somewhere behind the ice was really a challenge. the terrain was very slippery and dangerous. I found this ice window before sunset, set the camera on a tripod and let it there for about 2 hours unattended. This is what I love in the mountans. I am there totally alone. I just took the battery out. In the night I started to shooting the scene. Then I captured the stars on eqatorial mount on the hill above the waterfall.
The mountains are illuminated by near ski resort.
The high clouds pop the bright stars of Orion to another level.
Focus bracketing was used. Everything captured in real night, no twilight composite. Stars are aligned to correct position.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
Since 2016 I am walking landscapes with my photo backpack and tripod. It was my love to mountains and to nature in general that brought me to the landscapes photographing. First I started as classical tourist making pictures during my trips, but as time went on, it was more and more about targeted expeditions for a picture, sometimes staying overnight waiting for first morning sun rays.
When photographing I am focusing on less known places and trying to bring some new perspectives during different daily periods and year seasons.
Awards:
NASA astronomy picture of the day
2x3. and 2. place in Czech Nature Photo
