Access
When exploring the human-built environment, I often encounter barriers. In the Access series, excerpted here, the obstacles create interesting visual possibilities by displacing figure and ground.
Here, the foreground acts as a filter, mediating the reality coming to us from the other side. For me, the idea of mediated reality is a metaphor for our current global media landscape and socio-political scene.
We would like to believe that our stance on any topic depends on what we see – that we are objective. When viewing this work, what we see depends on where we stand. This work is intended to provoke us to stand in a different place, at least for a moment.
