We humans have been creative ever since we came into existence and try to embellish or depict our environment with various means. This has resulted in everything from marble busts to abstract sculptures that we marvel at, observe and move.
Doesn't nature already give the most beautiful sculptures? Sculptures which we sometimes cannot even imagine in our imagination and which move us just as much as our own produced sculptures.
Through my involvement with the vegetables that I help to produce in connection with a solidarity-based agriculture, I have repeatedly come across the most beautiful sculptures. A carrot suddenly had fingers or cartilage on it. The potato was not only an oval lump, but sometimes a potato man came into my pan.
These observations inspired me to illustrate this and I began to photograph the vegetables that we planted and harvested in the community garden. This of course on a pedestal, because sculptures belong there.
