Born out of the COVID-19 crisis, The Isolation Diary is a personal reflection on the long-term effects of a world-wide societal event such as the recent viral pandemic. The images in this series are presented in the form of a visual diary, as if the viewer were reading a very intimate, private journal. As a freelance photographer, I lost almost all of my current work when COVID-19 hit in the UK, and like many this crisis has hit hard.
Tackling complicated themes of anxiety, mental and physical health, isolation, relationship complexity and unemployment, as well as the wider political climate, this project is an examination of societal trauma as lived on a daily basis in the home environment.
It is my hope that by sharing my own short story that others may find understanding and compassion in this work, in what can be a very lonely and difficult time. As a gentle response to sensitive issues of mental health, this series quietly celebrates the fragile interpersonal relationships that hold us all together, when everything feels like it is falling apart.
