Yeongsanjae (Series)
DESCRIPTION
Yeongsanjae is a Buddhist ritual held on the 49th day after a person’s death to pray for that soul’s peace, to receive a good judgement and to gain posthumous enlightenment. Whilst the practice has become less common, it has taken on a symbolic purpose. During special events, monks gather together and pray for peace in which both the living and the dead realize the Dharma, the universal truth proclaimed by Buddha, together and pray that all those separated by life and death will become one and meet again. This year took on an extra cause along with extra precautions as the monks arrived in their traditional clothing and wearing surgical masks. The rituals were performed and prayers were made, but this year had the addition of wishing peace on all those affected by Covid-19 both directly and indirectly.
