DESCRIPTION
Thousand was protested in London in front of the US embassy building to end institutionalized racism. The demonstration on the 7th of July, 2020 was organized as a sympathy demonstration for the Black Lives Matter protests in the US. Although many news reports tried to depict the protests as violent or as a desperate copy of the American demonstrations, British police brutality and institutionalized racism are evident in the everyday lives of many Brits. According to the charity Inquest, a total of 1,741 people have died in police custody or otherwise in England and Wales since 1990 after contacting the police. My pictures were taken during the protest to represent those who still have to fight for an equal representation in our society.
AUTHOR
I am a Hungarian born gay Roma photographer, live in London.
My documentary photographs are centred around themes of human rights activism, LGBTQI+ and Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) experiences. Some of my recently completed photo series presented the disappearance of Roma minority journalism and the lives of Hungarian working-class Roma communities. I also have a few ongoing photo projects: the documentation of the changing Traveller traditions (craft making, fairs and religious festivals) and showcasing the contribution of GRT people in British festival organisations.
Recent photography awards: Shortlisted for Portrait of Britain, 2023; ND Awards, 2023; Fine Art Photography Awards, 2021, 2022, 2023
Exhibitions: Town explores a book literary festival, Hasting, 2022, Atchin Tan stage – Glastonbury Festival 2022 and 2023, BBA One Shot Award – Berlin, 2023,
Publications: Searching for Kushti exhibition catalogue
Portrait of Britain 2023, I have photographed a book for a Roma textile artist, due to be published in 2024
