Portrait of a former Russian army officer, now detained on the island of Gorgona, the last prison island in Italy.
This shot is part of a project about inmates living on the island.
This is one of the first portraits I took when I arrived.
I was interested in relating to a difficult situation and seeing what could arise since as a woman I had the rare opportunity to enter this prison where inmates live and work free but can never see or interact with anyone, much less with a woman.
There was a strong moment of emotion but also of tranquility.
I believe that the condition of living in captivity but immersed in nature generates a state of mind of profound balance, as if nature made man docile, despite being imprisoned.
