Salt. Taken for granted, yet, just as water, it is the essence of human life. With concern for the sustainability of our planet, Salt Scape investigates the complex natural balance of salt lakes by admiring the sublime impact of climate and our own human fragility by focusing on the !ne natural balance and environmental diversity of the salt lake climate that hold significance within the global predicament of climate change. Such ecosystems are extremely vulnerable. Saline lakes make up 44% of the volume of all lakes and are important to "ora and fauna and to balance climate. A balanced in"ow of water is needed to maintain habitat and to prevent salt storms. The project demonstrates the vast changes that occur at Salt Lakes within days and includes an afternoon salt storm in which the pink salt mixed with the colour of the sky creating an out of this world scene.

Wolf Nitschke is a French-German photographer based in Paris whose fine art documentary work traverses dramatic landscapes, the human impact on nature, and the social impact of urbanism.
